Do you know the short story ‘The Wall’ by Marlen Haushofer? It’s about a woman who suddenly finds herself alone behind an invisible wall that separates her mountain world, where she is, from the rest of the world. That’s kind of how it felt today to walk. Everything seemed incredibly deserted, as if there were no people left on earth. It was also completely quiet, no wind, almost no sounds, just the echo of my own footsteps. I also passed through some dilapidated and abandoned areas. Even the anthills I saw were abandoned. It was quite weird.
But, as so often before, when the sun came out in the afternoon, suddenly there was life too. Butterflies were swarming, the anthills were alive again, I could hear dogs and I saw a tractor driving. And to top it all off, at my night’s shelter, a couple of Danish hikers and two Danish gentlemen, one of whom lives here permanently, suddenly appeared. So we had a nice chat and I am once again convinced that there are people in the world, even if it sometimes doesn’t seem like it.

The closest I’d come to see a human being until then

A little break on the way

Is that a mannequin without a head? Spooky!
It certainly is. I found it spooky too. But fitted into all the delapidstion on my way
Thank you so much for letting me share your journey. The photographs are amazing. I’m very jealous but happy you’re on your way.
