Strange day today. The young boy scouts probably felt a little insecure in the company of an older lady, so they chose to completely ignore me. They answered very politely if I asked them something, but otherwise they just went about their business. It didn’t matter. I enjoyed being by the fire. Everyone went to bed early. The four adults from the group who had slept in the forest came in the morning and were very interested in my trip. It was nice to chat with them. They went off for their Easter lunch. So they didn’t have to walk very far. Neither before nor after.
It was a very grey and quiet day. At one point I got a little lost and entered a nature reserve. There were fences on both sides of the path and ruins of old farms. There was a strange desolate and eerie atmosphere. It felt good to be back on track.
I didn’t see many people today. Three cyclists, four cars and a young man with headphones on foot who took pains to let me know that he didn’t so much as want to say hello. But I did see two cranes and three black woodpeckers. It was great to arrive at the night’s shelter and immediately make a fire.
People are funny. People seem to be a little afraid of each other. The boys yesterday who seemed to be a little annoyed that I was there and also intended to sleep there. The night before, a guy came to the shelter quite late and obviously had intended to sleep there, but changed his mind when he saw me and moved on. Tonight a couple came and decided to move on after seeing that there was already one there. And a couple more are moving on. And there are even two shelters here. Plenty of space for everyone. Apparently people don’t seem to want to meet others.
All day as I walked, I thought about our ancestors, who often went on foot if they had to travel somewhere. It was much more dangerous and I guess they would have been happy to meet others as it would have provided more protection. Anyway, never mind. I don’t mind. I have the shelters and not least the fireplace. So I’m happy.

Happy!
Our society has been deprived of its trust by intensive social media exposure, interference and lies…
That’s their lost not to take the time to meet you. One would have expected more social skills from a group of scouts though !
I am glad you didn’t go astray and was back on the track in no time .
Must be the hair cut that scare people away in the evening , lol
People are funny about sharing their overnight space with strangers. They probably weekenders who were hoping to get a night in the wild by themselves ! Nothing personal.
What distance did you walking today?
Enjoy your fire and cuppa 🙂
I guess you are right re the haircut. Being our walking dag in and dag out is no beauty competition 😅
People are strange – I would have thought City folk would be wary but not when you’re out in the wilds. It’s their loss if they don’t want to talk with you. Just enjoy your walk! Xxx
I think I read somewhere that Norwegian and even Swedish men (outside urban areas) are very reluctant to talk to people and when they do talk they are usually really pissed! Could be a bit unsettling but probably nothing to do with you – or your haircut! Your photos are amazing! I feel like I’m walking with you! xx
Thanks Prue. Luckily they are not all like that 😅
Hahaha, and I just went in! I am also thinking about our anchestors a lot when walking, can totally relate.
