Notes from the North

A little walk through Sweden

35. More rain |

Well, if it rained yesterday, it certainly rained today. And not only that, the temperature dropped from 22 to 3. Today it just rained all day. I have one piece of equipment that I wouldn’t want to be without and that’s my umbrella. Probably not the most obvious piece of equipment, but one of my most treasured. It keeps you drier than anything else will when it’s raining all day. Unfortunately, when I got to my shelter, the wind direction was just in a way that half of the shelter was wet. When hiking, one of the main tasks is to stay dry and warm. It’s not always easy. While I was fairly dry because I had my umbrella, I immediately got wet when I fetched water and made a fire. Curled up in a corner of the shelter in my sleeping bag and able to keep reasonably warm, my wonderful Trail Angel offered to pick me up and spend the night in a warm house. Of course I said yes to such an incredibly kind offer. In fact, I can’t find words to describe the joy of being offered something like that. Of course I would have to and would have found s way to keep warm, but when the offer came, I was so happy. Imagine being in a warm house instead of in a half-wet shelter, with socks and shoes and rain clothes and hat and gloves wet. I can’t tell you how grateful I am. So now I find myself in a warm house, in a warm bed, with my clothes in the wash and infinitely happy, thanks to my trail angel Knut and his lovely wife Teresa. The community of hikers is just incredible. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

You are welcome Angelica! It was a pleasure to host you by us, you were an awesome and very grateful guest. I would do it again 100 %, we enjoyed it so much and are missing you already. Hope you are recharged and ready to continue your adventure, I will be happily following you at least here (since I can’t unfortunately join you, which would be my absolutely first choice if it was possible). Happy trails and hope we will have a chance to meet again soon!

Oh BTW, I know exactly where the huge anthill from your picture is! We were hiking this section in 2022 and it was there already, we were making lot of photos there. And this year I saw it again in the exactly same spot. Nature is just amazing.
