Notes from the North

A little walk through Sweden

This is going to be a two day report. The last two days I’ve been walking through the landscapes of Lord of the Rings. It’s been absolutely magical and I wouldn’t have been surprised if the Hobbits and Gandalf had appeared next to me. Fortunately, there was no sign of the orcs from Mordor.

As luck would have it, I had another evening with Sheena last night. She was supposed to take a ferry across Vättern, but it was too early in the season so it didn’t work out. You could wonder about that. But for me it was a great surprise and a very lovely evening.

Today I continued my hike through the most wonderful landscapes in Tiveden National Park. At a shelter I met Darius and Andreas, who were preparing food over the fire for a party of 18 hikers. We had a nice chat about hiking long distances and realising the things you dream of. Then they gave me a beer to take with me for later in the evening. Then I could think about them. I was happy to do so (thank you very much, Darius and Andreas).

Eventually I came to the most wonderfully situated shelter where 7-year-old Arvid and father Olov had already lit the fire and were fishing. They were going to sleep in a tent and I got the shelter all to myself. What a lovely evening it was. Now I look out over the loch and the fire. I’m feeling good.

(Sadly not so many pictures. Bad signal)
