Notes from the North

A little walk through Sweden

I’ve moved on. After some wonderful days with the family (thank you so much for everything, Kajsa and Johann) I set off again. To avoid having to walk another 60km on tarmac and gravel – my legs can’t really take it – I decided to take the bus until I got back to my hiking trail. It was definitely a good idea. As luck would have it, we will cross paths today with my dear friend Sheena from Orkney, who is cycling from Orkney, via Holland, Germany, Denmark and Sweden to Finland to follow the path of the blackbird. I didn’t even know that the blackbird was a migratory bird.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to an evening together. It’s just incredible that the timing worked out so we can meet up before she continues eastwards and I head further North.

I wondered why I didn’t see blackbirds in the winter at my bird feeders and had no idea they migratory either! There’s a couple in my garden this summer feeding their hatchlings – is Sheena sharing her epic bike route online? What a lovely way to re-start northwards.
